There are 5 stages of kidney disease. Often times, people are not diagnosed until they are already in Stage 3 because there are no symptoms of kidney disease. Kidney disease is silent! Not until stage 4 or 5 will you have nausea, fatigue, weakness.
Kidney function is measured by glomerular filtration rate (GFR); how fast the kidneys filter blood, keeping nutrients and getting rid of waste. A normal GFR is 90-120ml/min. It is very difficult to detect early kidney disease. The only way to detect kidney disease is with a blood test to measure GFR and a urine test to check for protein in the urine.
